Paper Abstract:
|
Digital games have typically been considered a male leisure activity, however recent statistics indicate that increasing numbers of females are now playing games. Digital games frequently give rise to engaging and meaningful social interactions, both over the Internet and in the real and virtual world of the gamer. This is the focus of the present paper, which explores digital MovieStarPlanet gaming as a situated social experience, shaped by the physical situation on the experience. We discuss also how co-players, audience, and their spatial organization shape play and player experience. We present a framework describing girls social processes underlying situated social play experience and how these are shaped by MovieStarPlaned game socio-spatial context. The cores of this study is describes various social player experiences, and discuss these both in terms of co-experience and mediated social game settings. |
